Job Title: CAREERS ADVISOR 

Location: Birmingham

Salary: £18,000 – £21,000

Job description 

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To contribute as a member of the JET Shop Services team, to provide information, advice and guidance to local communities. To undertake appropriate assessment and support beneficiaries in accessing appropriate employment, pre-vocational and/or vocational training.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a career advisor, you’ll need to:

· Interview people one-to-one or in small groups to discuss career or education options.

· Identify skills gaps and how to deal with them

· Help clients to draw up action plans for employment, education and training to support them achieve these goals.

· To support in conjunction with the existing team, relevant systems to facilitate an effective service delivery of face-to-face IAG, activities and workshops.

· To target potential service users in line with the projects delivery plan, and to ensure they take full advantage of services available to them.

· To liaise with relevant agencies and act as a referral agent for appropriate training and employment bodies – e.g. employment / training service providers, and other relevant partner organisations etc.

· To undertake all necessary training to ensure service is delivered to the national IAG standards.

· To work under a case load basis with KPI's (milestones, progressions and outcomes).

· To undertake customer tracking / engagement to ensure progressions are evidenced and recorded.

DEVELOPMENT OF AN INFORMATION / RESOURCES DATABASE.

· To collate data from a variety of sources, which will form the basis of an information / resources database. This tool will be used to identify suitable resources (both those available from internal and external sources), that may be utilised to satisfy the needs of the client base.

· To regularly liaise and exchange information with colleagues and other professionals working in similar professions or areas of service delivery.

· To utilise and disseminate appropriate information on employment, training, and other opportunities deemed relevant to addressing the needs of the clients.

· To develop and maintain effective channels of communication with relevant agencies.

PROMOTION AND MARKETING OF THE PROJECT.

· To collaborate with the project team and other staff in the design, production, and distribution of promotional and publicity material relating to the initiative.

· To promote and market the service delivery of the Initiative to relevant organisations, potential clients, relevant Statutory and Voluntary agencies, in conjunction with the Project

· To ensure relevant information is available and disseminated effectively in a format that is accessible to all sections of the community. Hence, empowering the client base and thereby maximising the opportunities open to them.

· To represent the project on appropriate community groups and to external agencies.

MONITORING & Evaluation

· To record and maintain statistical and written records, relating to the service delivery of the initiative.

· To implement a “follow-up / feedback” system, thereby ensuring that the initiative is realising its targets and that the needs of clients are being catered for effectively.

· To input activities on an achievement basis onto our performance monitoring application.

COMMITMENT TO PERSONAL & ORGANISATIONAL DEVELOPMENT.

· To achieve Level 4 Advice & Guidance qualification.

· To undertake other vocational qualifications and/or workshop-based learning to increase knowledge and experience of providing advice on learning and work to the general public.

· To maintain personal development plan and active participation in the development of our business strategy.

· To maintain standard that is intrinsic to our provision i.e. working in line with the Matrix quality standard for information advice and guidance services and adhering to good business practise.
